ESPN TO AIR THE FIRST-EVER HIGH STAKES ENTERTAINMENT GOLF TOURNAMENT

“The Doyle Brunson and Dewey Tomko Invitational” – Nine Players, Nine Holes, Nine Million Dollars

Las Vegas, NV – October 19, 2007 – Featuring some of the biggest names in gaming—Doyle Brunson, Dewey Tomko, Daniel Negreanu, Phil Hellmuth, among others—for the first time ever, High Stakes Entertainment is bringing together nine high stakes poker players to compete against each other as they never have before – in a Million Dollar per hole golf tournament at Bali Hai Golf Club in Las Vegas, Nevada.

“Every weekend golfers at courses across America are placing bets on their golf games, but not for this kind of money” says Joe Kreder, the President of High Stakes Entertainment. “The High Stakes Entertainment Golf Tour showcases some of the biggest names in poker, playing a brand of golf that the viewers will be able to relate  except for the amount of the wagers.  The program will also provide our viewers with an insight into this high stakes lifestyle that exists around the world.”

The HSE Golf Tour is a unique television experience that aligns the ever increasing popularity of reality television, combined with a very unique game of golf.

“I’ve always wanted to bring together a group of people that represent the high stakes gambling lifestyle,” says Dewey Tomko.  “What better way to involve my love of gambling with my love for golf than combining both on national television?”

The first event will feature Nine players, each wagering One Million Dollars of their own money to compete in a nine hole team scramble played according to the “Dewey Tomko’s Gamblers’ Rules of Golf”. The inaugural “Doyle Brunson and Dewey Tomko Invitational Event,” is scheduled to premiere on ESPN this Sunday, October 21st from 3:00 pm – 5pm EDST.

The competition will continue the following Sunday, October 28, 2007 on ESPN in the same time period.  The second event on the High Stakes Entertainment Golf Tour will add nine additional players, including Phil Ivey and Janet Jones Gretzky playing in a “Two Person Team Best Ball” match.

Sexton's Corner – Vol87 – Dewey Tomko, Part 2

It only seems appropriate the first golfer to tee off on ESPN's spectacular High Stakes Entertainment golf show and lead the way was gambling legend Dewey Tomko. With a huge crowd and all the TV cameras rolling, Dewey coolly teed it up and hit a long perfect drive right down the middle of the first fairway. Pressure??? What's that to Dewey??? This was like another day at the office to him and his famous partner Doyle Brunson. Read More...

Sexton's Corner – Vol 7 – Dewey Tomko, Part 1

A movie should be made about the golf, poker, and gambling exploits of Dewey Tomko. He has had an amazing life so far, and is still going stronger than ever! Let's go back in time between 1970 and 1975. After graduating from Salem College in Salem, West Virginia, Dewey taught kindergarten for those six years at Hanes Elementary School in Hanes, Florida. During this period, he began to play in bigger and bigger poker games at night, finding himself winning $5,000 to $10,000 on many occasions. This was amazing to him, as his top annual pay teaching in 1975 was $6,700!! It got to be tough, as much as Dewey loved...

Doyle Brunson & Dewey Tomko Hold High Stakes Golf Launch Party at Venetian Last Night

$1,305,000 was the amount 2007 Masters Champion Zach Johnson took home for winning golf's most prestigious tournament this past April, and he had to fend off Tiger Woods to do it. Today, nine of the world's highest stakes gamblers are putting up $1 million dollars of their own money to compete in Round 1 of The Doyle Brunson and Dewey Tomko Invitational; a nine hole, three-man team scramble in which they'll be playing for a million dollars per hole. Sorry, Tiger – you're not invited.
